Red Bull Locks In Leadership With Decade Long Deal For Laurent Mekies

October 15, 2026 2 min read

Red Bull Racing has sent a clear message of stability to the Formula One paddock by securing Laurent Mekies as CEO and Team Principal through the 2031 season. The long term extension follows a turbulent but ultimately rewarding period for the Milton Keynes squad, providing a sense of continuity that mirrors recent contract renewals for star driver Max Verstappen and teammate Isack Hadjar. By tying Mekies to the project for several more years, the organization is betting on a steady hand to navigate the evolving landscape of the sport.

The road to this agreement was not without its hurdles. After stepping up from Racing Bulls in July 2025, Mekies faced a grueling introduction to the top job as the team struggled initially under new regulations and found themselves slipping behind their primary competitors. However, persistence paid off during the 2026 campaign, culminating in back to back victories for Verstappen in Malaysia and Singapore. Those wins acted as a turning point, proving that the technical direction steered by Mekies could once again deliver championship winning performance.

In reflecting on his new tenure, Mekies expressed immense pride in the collective effort of his staff and credited the support of ownership figures Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz along with Oliver Mintzlaff. He emphasized that the synergy between his leadership and technical leads like Pierre Wache and Ben Hodgkinson forms a powerful foundation for the coming years. According to Mekies, the team intends to maintain its identity by remaining bold in its decision making and agile in its execution as they chase further glory.

Company executives praised Mekies for his ability to blend high level technical expertise with a strategic mindset during a critical transitional phase. Mintzlaff noted that leadership continuity is essential for any team seeking sustained success at the pinnacle of motorsport, suggesting that Mekies perfectly embodies the aggressive and determined spirit known as the Red Bull way. With the core pillars of management and driving now settled, the team appears ready to build upon their recent momentum toward another era of dominance.
